Jack Hoogendyk reports Representative Brian Calley - the primary sponsor of HB 5114 (2009 joint custody bill) - will likely to get Republician nomination for Lieutenant Governor:

Brian Calley to Get Nod for LG?

Reliable sources report State Representative Brian Calley will be named as Rick Snyder's running mate for Lieutenant Governor, three days before the State GOP Convention.

Constitutional Conservatives and Tea Party Delegates will now have to decide if Mr. Calley will be a staunch supporter of limited government and individual liberty, as well as a strong advocate for the sanctity of life. As reported here about a week ago, Calley has a pretty solid record as a business conservative in his tenure as a State Representative. He has been consistently pro-life. Check his record here.

The big announcement may be made at Grand Rapids Public Museum Wednesday afternoon 4:45 p.m. at a public town hall.

House Bill 5114 (2009)
Introduced by Rep. Brian Calley (R) on June 17, 2009, to establish that in a custody dispute between parents, a court must order joint custody unless it determines by clear and convincing evidence that a parent is unfit, unwilling, or unable to care for the child; or unless the parent moves outside the school district and is unable to maintain the child's school schedule without interruption. In that case, the court must order that the parents submit to mediation to determine a custody agreement that maximizes both parents' ability to participate equally in a relationship with their child while accommodating the child's school schedule.

Prosecutors move forward with Mikko case
Judge dismissed some of ex-court referee's charges

BY ALEX PIAZZA apiazza@record-eagle.com

TRAVERSE CITY — Prosecutors continue to forge ahead with their criminal case against a former 13th Circuit Court referee despite a series of setbacks in court.

Charlevoix Circuit Judge Richard Pajtas last month dismissed several felony charges that accused Dennis Mikko, 53, of possessing child sexually abusive material. The state Court of Appeals last week also rejected an appeal filed by Grand Traverse County authorities.

But county Prosecutor Alan Schneider said the setbacks won't impede the case.
