Enhanced Website Released
'Any Man in America' Opens Strong
Turnips Radio and Video

Dear Jim;

We're pleased to announce the launch of ACFC's updated website.  The information and features you've enjoyed in the past are still here, along with some new material.  We are particularly looking forward to utilizing the new window on the home page to bring you updated information on a regular basis.  Check back regularly for news, action, events and alerts.  We'll bring articles and commentary from numerous sources on all kinds of Shared Parenting and family law related topics.  Whether your interests are divorce, child custody, child support, domestic violence, legislation, false allegations or other related issues, check back regularly, you will find new information here on a regular basis.

Let us know what's going on in your community, send news items and stories to info@acfc.org

Here are a couple of items of interest.

Modern rock band Blue October releases their new album, 'Any Man in America' today.  The album chronicles band founder and lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld's, divorce and ensuing child custody battle.  Blue October is teaming up with ACFC to promote Shared Parenting and family law reform on their 40 city tour which begins tomorrow in Dallas, Texas at the House of Blues.  Check out the Blue October website and collaboration press release.

Save the Turnips is a campaign drawing attention to child support issues and the plight of indigent child support obligors who have been locked up in debtor prisons for no crime other than being too poor to pay child support.  On June 20th the United States Supreme Court rendered its decision in Turner v. Rogers.  The case surrounded the issue of whether indigent child support payers should be provided legal counsel prior to incarceration.  Florida attorney Sam Assini joined Marti Ryan, Save the Turnips program director, to discuss this decision during July's 'Save the Turnips' blog talk radio broadcast.   Go to the 37:15 minute mark to hear the interview.  The analysis is revealing.

Also, check out Marti's interview with comedian Carl Labove at one of his recent shows in Tennessee.  Carl owes over $200,000 in back support for a child DNA has demonstrated is not his.  You'll identify with the comments of a number of people on the video.

Dr. Phil Show to Feature Male Victims of DV

Dr. Phil Show to Feature Male Victims of DV

Dear Jim Semerad,

Stop Abusive and Violent Environments is pleased to announce that the Dr. Phil Show will be featuring a program devoted to the topic of male victims of domestic violence. The program will be aired in mid-September. The show will feature SAVE spokesman Philip W. Cook and several male victims of partner abuse.

The decision to devote a program to male victims followed Dr. Phil McGraw's testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 13, 2011 - see SAVE's July 25 press release:

For more information on how domestic violence programs discriminate against male victims, see SAVE's Special Report:

SAVE applauds the Dr. Phil Show for its recognition and support of all victims of domestic violence.

Sincerely,

teri

CA: F&F's Paternity Fraud Bills: Physicians Endorse Reasonable Means to Determine Correct Paternity

F & F's Paternity Fraud Bills: 50 Physicians Endorse 'Reasonable Means' to Determine Correct Paternity

Are You a Victim of Paternity Fraud? We Want to Know About Your Case–Please Click Here.

Fathers and Families has helped introduce two new paternity fraud bills (SB 375 and SB 377) into the California legislature, both sponsored by Senator Roderick Wright (D-Inglewood).

There are many reasons to support these bills, including fairness for the men targeted by paternity fraud. But there are also compelling medical reasons to combat paternity fraud. In our official support letter for SB 375 and SB 377, Ned Holstein, M.D., M.S., F & F's Founder and Chairman of the Board, wrote:

Current California law declares that there is a compelling state interest in determining paternity for all children. SB 375 would instead declare that there is a "compelling state interest in determining biological paternity for all children." Current California law allows minors to sign paternity judgments without parental consent or legal counsel. SB 377 would prohibit this practice, which currently leads to many errors in assigning paternity.

Speaking as a physician and a Harvard-educated public health specialist, I'm writing to you because I believe SB 375 and SB 377 are important steps towards recognizing and promoting the medical importance of correctly identifying a child's paternity…

Medical schools and medical journals continuously urge physicians, particularly pediatricians, to investigate their patients' family histories. The U.S. Surgeon General has launched a major national initiative (https://familyhistory.hhs.gov) to encourage all American families to learn more about their family health histories.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, "Knowing your family history can help your doctor predict your risk of developing diseases like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer." This is not possible when the wrong man is identified as the father of a child.

Fathers and Families has many supporters within the medical community. Fifty of our physician supporters have agreed to be listed as endorsers of the following statement:

As physicians, we agree with the U.S. Surgeon General and the National Institutes of Health that good patient care includes accurate family histories. For this reason, we endorse the principle of employing reasonable means, including DNA testing, to accurately determine children's paternity.

Fathers and Families' full SB 375 and SB 377 support letter and the list of physician signatories can be seen here.

Stop Federal HR 2790 Extends Title IV-E

H.R. 2790, The Child and Family Services Extension and Enhancement Act

Posted by: "Leonard Henderson" leonard@familyrights.us

H.R. 2790, The Child and Family Services Extension and Enhancement Act

Introduced August 2, 2011

H.R. 2790 would amend part B of title IV of the Social Security Act

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OP_Home/ssact/ssact-toc.htm

to extend the child and family services program through fiscal year 2016.

H.R. 2790 http://www.washingtonwatch.com/bills/show/112_HR_2790.html

Read the entire Bill http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.2790:

We believe this is one of the "Great Grandmothers" of

the Child Abuse Industry that destroys families on the

slightest pretence.

We believe this is one of the huge hoses siphoning off

money from the Social Security system, and we believe

MUCH of the money is going into FRAUD.

Our figures show that anywhere between $300

Billion and One Trillion Dollars a year (or more) is

going down this rat hole, depending on how much of the

downstream damage you include.

UM: Father Research Study

Hello,

I am hoping you can pass the study information below on to your members in case they are interested in participating, or allow me to pass it along on the listserv. This research will help us to better understand the needs of fathers and stepfathers, who are a very under-studied group. Most people enjoy participating and find the project interesting. Thanks so much for your help!

I am a graduate student at the University of Michigan in clinical psychology. I am writing you today in hopes that you might be able to help me with a research study that I am currently running. The research study is designed to look at issues that  fathers and stepfathers face. For this study, I need  fathers and stepfathers to complete a 15-20 minute online research survey. Participants will receive $7 in the form of an amazon.com gift card for their participation. Here is the link to the survey:
