I WAS A VICTIM OF A HIT AND RUN Many of you who read the Berkshire Eagle know I was hit by a tractor trailer the previous Monday, August 16, at around 11:30 AM in front of the Superior Court house in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. (For some reason, story is not in online edition.) A tractor trailer was coming around the circular Park Square and was parallel with another tractor trailer in another lane. As the tractor trailer was turning the rotary, the tractor trailer most inadvisably tried to pass me while I was on a bicycle. Clearly unaware of the mechanics of his cab, he probably thought his trailer would just follow the path of his cab. Of course, tractor trailers do not do that. The trailer makes a straight line from the back wheel to the front wheel. As he was straightening out on to East Street, he hit the gas and his trailer pushed right into me leaving me leaving me no place to go. His trailer was literally sweeping me off the road. At that intersection, other tractor trailers usually pull somewhat into the second lane to give their trailers enough room to negotiate the turn. At that point, on East Street by the crosswalk in front of the Berkshire Superior Court house, the breakdown lane becomes inches big (it really is a terrible, if not negligent design). I had no place to go and he hit me with his trailer. It felt like my leg was being put into a meat grinder—indescribably awful. After I hit the ground, I made eye contact with the tractor trailer out of his right mirror—he knew he hit me. We are looking for witnesses to the incident. If you know anyone, please have them call me at 413-445-6789. The bad news: Leg swollen like and elephant and 11 days later I still an on crutches. The good news: (1) I fell to the right and lived to tell about it. (2) No broken bones. 2. Why does the National Organization of Women continue to lie? Please read my latest essay, Why does NOW keep lying? Their latest false claim: Women are not protected by the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution. 3. Candidate for State Representative Strong Supporter of Shared Parenting As many of you know, the Berkshire 1st District and Berkshire 2nd District are opening up (the Massachusetts state House of Representatives). I met candidate Thomas S. Szczepaniak (D) of Dalton, a Dalton selectman, and boy—he has probably got to be the strongest candidate in support of shared parenting that walked the face of the earth. This was a chance encounter at the Wednesday Live on the Lake Concert—I have not talked to any other candidates. Thom couldn't see his daughter, who was with him when I met him, for eight years. 4. Candidate for Sherriff supporter of shared parenting while in legislature Despite widespread popular support (about 87% of the voting population), we sadly lack sufficient support in the legislature. We had a lot of support from the soon to be former State Representative from the Berkshire First District, Dan Bosley. I remember when I was only two years into being a father's rights activist, and Dan Bosley came down to a Good Ol' Fashion Family Picnic to make an impassioned speech in support of shared parenting. His opponent is a great guy, but I think he is way overplaying his law enforcement background—the only law enforcement done in Berkshire County is traffic detail for Tanglewood. Essentially, the Berkshire Sherriff only runs the jail—I question how applicable being a detective translates into direct skills. To read about Dan Bosley's support of shared parenting, read HERE.
