MA Action Alert: Your Emails Needed to Support Shared Parenting

1) Senator Cynthia Creem is Co-Chair of the Judiciary Committee, which is critical for almost all of our family court reform bills. Senator Creem has opposed most of our legislative initiatives.

2) Senator Creem’s district is Newton, Brookline and part of Wellesley.

3) She is in a close primary race for the Democratic nomination for her Senate Seat with Charles Rudnick. Whoever wins the primary wins the seat.

4) Senator Creem has a conflict of interest. She is a practicing divorce attorney while opposing legislation, such as our shared parenting bill and the alimony bill, which could reduce conflict and therefore potentially decrease her earnings as a lawyer.

5) Her conflict of interest has become a highly-publicized issue in the campaign.

6) Ned Holstein has written a guest column in the Newton Tab, published today, pointing out her conflict of interest, as well as Rudnick’s silence on our issues.

7) Creem’s supporters are fighting back with blog posts. They are taking two tacks: A) nobody cares about shared parenting, alimony, etc. – they only care about jobs, health, education and local aid; B) The shared parenting/alimony/conflict of interest issue has only been raised by people outside the district.

This Is Where You Come In

8) Please take a moment and enter a blog comment on the Newton Tab website supporting Ned’s column. The link is here. We suggest making the following points, in your own words

A) A politician with a major conflict of interest is a concern for all voters, not just those who care about family law

B) Senator Creem has a conflict of interest

C) 86% of Massachusetts voters endorsed shared parenting, and our legislators should enact it

D) shared parenting is better for our children

E) Mr. Rudnick should clarify where he stands on shared parenting and alimony reform.

9) Get your friends and relatives to submit blog posts at the same link, especially those in the Newton/Brookline/Wellesley district.

10) Also, please comment on our issues in relation to the recent Boston Globe story Creem facing primary fight for Senate seat by clicking here. To write a Letter to the Editor of the Boston Globe concerning the article, please send it to letter@globe.com or use their online form here. The shorter the letter, the better chance it has of being published.
