Equal Parental Rights for All Fit Parents
All children and their biological parents deserve to have a meaningful and significant relationship unless a parent is unfit or unwilling.
These Michigan bills do not properly protect the father-child relationship. They only allow a small window for a father to request rights with the mother and state having too much power to deny the father rights to parent their child. The laws should be modified to include a right to dispute paternity whenever evidence comes to light and that the proper father-child relationship be recognized unless there is clear and convincing evidence of unfitness. Also the law should require DNA tests at birth for all live births.
