Children deserve a significant relationship with both of their fit and willing biological parents. This blog is an attempt to encourage thinking on how to change state and federal laws and practices that tend to not allow or encourage this.
These Michigan bills do not properly protect the father-child relationship. They only allow a small window for a father to request rights with the mother and state having too much power to deny the father rights to parent their child. The laws should be modified to include a right to dispute paternity whenever evidence comes to light and that the proper father-child relationship be recognized unless there is clear and convincing evidence of unfitness. Also the law should require DNA tests at birth for all live births.
